About Chi311 Plus

Chicago publishes a remarkable amount of 311 service-request data, but it's scattered across spreadsheets, dashboards, and APIs that aren't designed for everyday residents. We built Chi311 Plus to make that information genuinely useful: easy to browse on a map, easy to compare across neighborhoods and wards, and easy to act on by filing or upvoting a request.

Our goal is simple — help residents understand what's happening on their block, hold local government accountable with transparent metrics, and lower the friction of civic participation.

All issue data on this site comes from the City of Chicago 311 Service Requests dataset, published on the Chicago Data Portal under the Socrata Open Data API (SODA).

Ward boundaries, alderman information, and neighborhood geographies are also sourced from the Chicago Data Portal. Maps are powered by OpenStreetMap contributors.

Data is refreshed twice daily. Aggregate metrics on the Home and Ward Scorecard pages are computed from the full dataset; map and neighborhood views query the 311 API live.

Chi311 Plus is an independent project. We do not represent the City of Chicago, any alderman's office, or any political organization. Reports submitted through this site that are forwarded to 311 follow the City's standard public-record process.

We collect only the minimum information needed to operate the site: an email address if you create an account, and the contents of any reports or upvotes you submit. We do not sell user data.

Ward grades on the Scorecard reflect a curve based on closure rate and median age of open issues across all 50 wards. They are intended as a relative comparison, not an official performance review of any alderman or city department.

"Open issues" are service requests with a status of Open and no closed date. "Median age" is the median number of days since each open issue was created.
